Ok, so I know the current runway trend with florals doesn’t really come as a big surprise, being that it’s Spring and all, but I must say, my sincere love for all things flouncy, frilly, and flowery has amplified to an all-time high. I especially adore it’s sweet-girl, feminine quality when paired with something rather more striking and hardcore, like a thick leather belt with a massive buckle, chunky studded ankle boots, or gladiator heels with heavy straps all over. The contrast between both kinds of elements makes the look all the more alluring, at least for me. And right now I just can’t get enough of floral dresses. With the beautiful warm weather making its mark, getting ready every day has been a quick 1-2-3 ‘n go kind of process! After skimming through one of my favorite shopping sites for designer goodies, Net-a-porter, here’s my list of favorite flower power lovelies. Check them out after the jump…

I recently returned from a romantic little getaway in Puerto Rico. After touring much of Old San Juan (a truly magical town with so much history) in my frilly little dress by Jovovich-Hawk for Target, I just had to give these designers a nice “big ups”. Though I wasn’t too thrilled at the collection at first glance (very Sienna Miller back in ‘05), trying some of them on was a whole different story! The fit on many of the pieces were very flattering, had a vintage-inspired touch, and were oh so sweet and summery for these upcoming months. Since there’s only a limited amount of Jovovich-Hawk left in stores, Target marked them 30% off. Whoohoo! Here’s one of the styles I purchased, and happily pranced around Puerto Rico in:

I think I almost slipped off my chair when I heard that Topshop is coming stateside in just a matter of months. For so long, I’ve truly adored many of their items, especially their abundance of cool accessories and footwear. And now, to find out that owner Sir Philip Green has finally declared Topshop’s movement to the states, I couldn’t be more pleased! But I do wonder…should H&M be worried?
SAVE THE DATE PEOPLE - It’s scheduled to open its doors on October 10, 2008 on 478 Broadway, near Broome Street. What a little dream come true.

The heavily anticipated collabo with Gryson for Target has finally arrived and is available at Target.com now! I’m crossing my fingers that the woven satchel with cutout handles is still available…hoping, hoping! While I was a little uncertain on the actual quality of these bags, I’ve gladly been reading some positive reviews on them, and I’m ecstatic to snag one of these babies myself. If all goes well, I’ll definitely fill you gals in when I buy one.

I’ve been a loyal fan of Swedish designers Acne Jeans for quite some time, keeping up a keen eye not only on their skilled take on quality denim cuts, but also on their womens collection, which I must say has yet to fail me. As their new collections roll in every season, my eyes can’t help but reel at the somewhat uber-cool simplicity that each piece conveys. It’s like the kind of clothes you’d scope out in some hot, downtown girl’s closet…you know, the ones that strut through Nolita or the Lower East Side, making you stop to wonder “Damn, I love how she pulled that off!”
The story on how these cool Swedes came together to launch their new brand is pretty interesting. Initially, they designed 100 pairs of jeans back in 1997 simply as gifts for their families, friends, and small client base. Made from quality raw denim and embellished with striking red thread, there was no doubt that these designers would be making a nice niche for themselves in the denim industry. As the buzz inevitably spread on just how amazingly talented they were, buyers by the bundles began to request their small line, and so began the cult following! Ah, and on another very joyous note, Acne Jeans has finally opened stateside in Soho, their very first US boutique. They are located on 10 Greene Street betwn Grand and Canal. So excited! If you can’t head on over there just yet, eLuxury has picked up some of their hot pieces, which I’m so very tempted to snap up (if the funds allow). Check out some of my current faves!

With the slightly warmer weather rearing its pretty face, I think there’s no better time than for us gals to start editing our closets, and put those heavy winter coats, chunky knit scarves, and wool sweaters to rest for the time being. Though we still have about a month or so before Springtime really kicks in full gear, that doesn’t mean we can’t do a little prepping now, right? For this new season I’m definitely striving to go for looks that make an “effortlessly cool” statement… something that I could simply throw on and be out the door in minutes, while at the same time achieving a nicely pulled-together, cute effect! Today, after going through my daily sweet indulgence of favorite style blogs, celebrity news sites, and of course, checkin’ up on the trusty Sartorialist, I came across some images of the lovely Ms. Dunst. I do sincerely admire her natural-born talent for taking the laid back approach to style. Kirsten is right on point with what I mean by “effortless cool”. Check out my personal, detailed list of key pretty things for Spring inspired by candid shots of Ms. Dunst!

I recently wrote up a post on American Apparel’s lame leggings. Sadly, I still have yet to head on over there and try them on for size…never got the chance to. Although, after scanning through their fairly new arrivals, I couldn’t help but plant my eyes on their faux denim (ahem!) high-waisted leggings. Oh man, do I love any and all things HIGH-WAISTED! There’s just something incredibly body-flattering about this style, and I adore them for that. They do absolutely serve as a sweet fashion staple for every lady’s wardrobe when made with quality and a good choice of fabric. And these particular ones have a very sexy 1950’s Pin-Up Girl aura to them, don’t you think? I’m channeling a Betty Page meets studious college girl kind of vibe. Picture these pants tucked with a crisp plaid blue buttoned-down, or possibly something seersucker, thick-framed reading glasses, pouty shanghai-red lips, and some cute vintage pumps. How cool is that? Now I can happily say that I have more of an incentive to hit up AA this week. I’m just hoping the faux denim doesn’t appear too, too faux…as in borderline cheapy. Here’s more lovely pics after the jump… Click here to continue reading AA High-Waisted Faux Denim

I’ve always been such a fan of Lotta’s quirky, yet well thought out take on design. From tote bags, to clothing, to homewares, and even stationery…each item gives us a little glimpse into her life, such as her childhood memories in Scandinavia, and also of her many travels like Oporto, Portugal and Tokyo, Japan. These times and I’m sure many others have served as pieces of inspiration for her designs. For one, I absolutely adore her choice of neutral, almost calming (for lack of a better word) line of fabrics. And the many prints she creates for her linens and stationery allude to themes of nature, which is too cute for words. So, as we enter into Spring, what better way to ring in the new, fresh season than with a little Lotta to add to our own closets or even our home or office?

So initially, when American Apparel first came out with leggings in shiny lamé sheens, my first thought was…”tacky atlantic city call girl meets random chick who’s stuck in the 80’s and refuses to leave.” The only time where I thought I’d ever be compelled to purchase them was possibly for a Halloween party or just hangin’ around with friends (camera on-hand) in NON-public chill spots for silly, good times…but those thoughts have OFFICIALLY changed.
I am so in love with lamé! As I attempted to analyze what the whole fuss with these leggings were about, I pondered to myself…”hmm, am i sensing a rockstar-chic vibe?” And my senses immediately answered, “Oh hell yeah!” When pulled off the right away, I think these stand as a definite must-buy piece. Since this style of leggings pretty much make a fierce statement all by themselves, it’s best to downplay everything else you’re wearing. For me, I’d pull these off with a simple loose-fitted white tee or tank, a big slouchy neutral-colored cardigan, and black platform pumps, ballet flats, or gladiator sandals. Overall, they do serve as an inexpensive, comfy alternative to actual leather pants, especially if you want to avoid what could be a potential sweaty mess. It just might give your legs more breathing room. I’ll most likely hit up my local American Apparel tomorrow and snatch ‘em up. Currently, I’m eyeing this style in the more versatile, high-waisted version. It’ll look cute worn over a shirt for day, and oh so hot tucked in with a fitted tank at night. The somewhat hefty $44.00 price tag may come as a slight turn-off for something as simple as leggings (keep in mind though that these kind simply ROCK), but I do think it’s a nice little investment for your wardrobe.
MK pulls them off quite well (Ashley too, top right)…very cool and understated:

If there’s one fine lady that I’ve always seemed to find myself googling time and time again, it would have to be the undoubtedly uber-cool, and oh so chic- Chloe Sevigny. Whether it’s strutting the red-carpet, catching sneak peak images of her at runway shows, or scanning through her latest candid shots, she never ever ceases to amaze me with her laid back style and highly personal take on fashion. I imagined myself being Chloe’s “bff” one day and having total access to her wardrobe whenever the need strikes…haha, y-e-s…this is one of the things I daydream over on my down time! That’s probably why it came as no surprise to me on how friggin’ PSYCHED I was when I first laid eyes on her Spring 2008 collection. Her new line conveys a very classic punk/rockabilly vibe that’s got an edgy, fun, too-cool-for-school aesthetic, yet is completely wearable. And the best thing is it really targets Sevigny’s own everyday style. With the help of Opening Ceremony’s co-owners Carol Lim and Humberto Leon in producing the line, Sevigny is so kind to let all of us style-crazed gals have somewhat of a sense of access into her closet. I can honestly say, HANDS DOWN, I wouldn’t mind owning every single piece that she’s designed…wouldn’t mind at all.
